3 Tips For Taking the Drama Out of Bridesmaids Dress Shopping
/Shopping for bridesmaids dresses is probably one of the most stressful parts of the planning process because it gets wayyy more emotional than it needs to be. So why does this get so dramatic? Your girls might be being difficult because they are a little jealous that you’re getting married or they just have a hard time letting you be the center of attention. Or maybe you are really seizing this opportunity to try to control everyone (whether you like to admit it, or not). Whatever drama is going on here, just have a little compassion for yourself and for your girls - this is a big change happening in your life and it will definitely stir some stuff up. If you can take a moment to stop and notice what is going on then get a little grateful for all the awesomeness that is going on in your life, you will be able to connect with your girls and actually have some fun picking out their dresses.
Here are a few of my tips for bridesmaids dress shopping:
#1 Stop making this a wayyyy bigger deal than it actually is
First of all, you won’t notice what your girls are wearing on your big day. You won’t. You are freakin’ getting married. Yeah, it’s important for them to coordinate and look great, but you are the star of the show, not them! Spend more time on your dress, and less time stressing about getting theirs perfect.
#2 Don't force your girls to all wear the same dress
Mix and match bridesmaids dresses are all the rage right now and not just because they look great. Most likely your girls are different shapes and sizes. And there is never ever going to be one dress that looks perfect on everyone, this isn’t Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. It definitely isn’t your job to make everyone happy here, but it is in your best interest to let your girls look great on your big day. Happy bridesmaids make for cute pictures! You might be thinking this is waaaayyy more work than just finding one dress, but it’s really not. You can just find 3 that you love and let your girls pick which they want. Or find a mix and match bridesmaids inspo photo on Pinterest, give it to your girls and have them go find a dress that they love that fulfills your vision.
#3 Don't try to find something they can wear again
Let’s be real, they aren’t EVER going to wear it again. So many brides stress themselves out trying to find a dress their girls will wear again. Unless you do floral maxis or something pretty casual, they aren’t ever going to wear the dress again. So with that in mind, you want to be a little mindful of your girls’ budgets.
